Hitchcock's students, staff, and parents are successful at ensuring our students master the foundational skills at each grade level so that we are able to extend learning opportunities in all content areas with STEM activities. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education. The focus of STEM education is to provide hands-on, problem-based learning. It is known for sparking an interest in subjects such as science, technology, math, and engineering, because it gets students more involved in doing, rather than just learning. A student well-versed and literate in STEM tends to be an innovative and critical thinker. By engaging in STEM learning experiences, students learn how to examine problems and then create a plan to solve them. Eventually, he or she can apply this to real-world problems. STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach that helps students succeed in school and in their future careers.
